Yoga (10 weeks)

An adult class for both men and women, beginners to improvers.

Concentration on the breath is a key aspect to this class, as is the development of an awareness of gravity and its affect on our spines.

In recognition of our very stressful lives, the yoga practice helps us gain inner space and the quietness to listen. Through this, we can begin to revitalize all aspects of our being: the mind, the body and the spirit.

Postures are approached gently, but with intense focus to let go of our pictures of ego and connect with our true self.

This style of yoga is based on the approach of Vanda Scaravelli, who was a pupil of Mr. B.K.S lyengar, but went deeper in her own practise by personal discovery and exploration. She recognised the value, connection and working of the spine and how it has a direct affect on the growth and blossoming of each individual.

Pranyama is also studied in class. Cleansing, letting go and receiving are the essence of this practice, and these aspects are built up slowly over the ten weeks.

In the deepening of our practice, we begin to recognise that the practice is a reflection of our own lives. If we can bring the awareness gained from our practice into the questioning and developing of our selves, the essence of yoga becomes integrated in our daily activity.

My teaching with this approach is deeply personal. Hence, my groups are small so that I am able to work with each person closely to help them discover yoga from an inner space that can only keep growing. My teaching is constantly evolving due to my own practice and continual learning, and so is not formulaic, but can be dynamic in its stillness, as well as rested in its activity.
